Moneyfields FC can confirm that, at the end of the season, Manager Glenn Turnbull will be stepping down from his role in order to take up a role in the hierarchy at the club.
The 50-year-old will go down as a Moneys club legend, having steered us to Wessex Premier Division glory last season and stabilising us as a strong Isthmian League side this campaign.
Since joining from US Portsmouth in the summer of 2021, months after taking the Victory Stadium side to the FA Vase semi-final, Turnbull has amassed an incredible 121 wins at the helm, and has also took us to the PDFA Cup Final this year, having narrowly missed out on the trophy in 2022 when we lost the final at the PMC Stadium.
In his first season, Turnbull led us to a respectable ninth placed finish, which was started in the best possible vein, thanks to a 4-0 win over Cowes Sports in his first game. However, consistency was perhaps slightly lacking – with the team going on to lose 4-1 to Gosport Borough in the cup final after a mixed league campaign.
That season also saw Moneys brush aside Amesbury Town in their final game on the grass pitch at Dover Road, with Turnbull leading the side at the Victory Stadium at the back end of that campaign.
It wasn’t the plan but the next season also started with Moneys ground sharing, as it took until November for Turnbull’s side to play as the ‘home’ team in the 2022/23 season. That year saw us finish fifth, with a notable highlight being a 3-3 draw against then league leaders AFC Portchester at Westleigh Park, in front of a record Moneys attendance of 1,012.
It was definitely a case of third time lucky though for Turnbull, who saw his side romp to the title in the 2023/24 campaign. A ridiculous run throughout the core of the season led to Moneys being invincible in the league from mid-August all the way up until that memorable game at Laverstock & Ford in April when the title was secured.
This season started off looking like it would be a real dogfight for Moneys to preserve their Step Four status but, thanks in part to Turnbull, Moneys are still well and truly in with a shout of making the play-offs, and are still unbeaten in the league since February. Whilst this season also saw Turnbull pick up the Isthmian League South Central Manager of the Month awards for both January and March.
Everyone at Moneyfields FC wishes Glenn all the best in his new role!
