A dominant 6-1 display at Bristol Road, sees Moneyfields get back to winning ways once again in the South West National League.  It was a dominating first half display in the first 45 that was pivotal to today’s win, with 4 of Money’s goals coming before the interval.

Despite being confirmed as second place, the points still continue to rack up the tally for Karl Watson’s side as we now sit on 48 points, 7 ahead of Swindon Town in third.

Keeper Libby Stratton brought down the Portishead forward just outside the box, but the shot-stopper was only awarded a yellow card.

Lucy Cooper opened the score inside ten minutes when she finished off the rebound from her initial shot to make it 1-0. Shannon Albuery was brought down in the penalty area, and Money’s were given the spot kick, to which our top scorer converted from the spot to make it 2-0.

Olivia Venditto went on to score an absolute screamer moments later, after the fullback’s effort flew into the top corner to make it three.

Albuery was on quest for a second, however, Charley Wilson-Wilton headed home the forward’s effort, which hit the bar, but fell into the back of the net to make it four.

Half time: Portishead 0-4 Moneyfields

The hosts managed to claw a goal back in this tie early on in the second half from a corner.  Brit Jeal came on for Brooke Garcia, and the substitute was able to get herself on the scoresheet when she passed the ball into the bottom right-hand corner to make it five with 65 minutes played.

Lucy Cooper and Olivia Venditto were amongst the other players to get subbed off, with Kimberly Fuller and Sarah Butterworth coming on.  There was also a change in net, with Libby Stratton coming off for Sara Luce with just over ten minutes left to play.

Money’s were then awarded their second penalty of this tie, when Albuery was brought down by the Portishead keeper who was sent off for the challenge.  Albuery converted from the spot to make it six and score her 19th goal of the campaign.

After the final whistle, the media team spoke to manager Karl Watson and Man of the Match Meg Fox.

Karl said, “Thursday’s training session was really enjoyable, and it was the same again today. Everything transferred, and we were popping the ball around, everyone knew their roles.

Meg Fox believes: “The first ten minutes was a bit iffy, but we got into the game and started playing our football which was the main thing.
