Moneyfields came up short in the dying moments of the game, after almost making a dramatic comeback from 3-0 down early into the second half.
It was a defeat for Karl Watson’s side in the last game of the WNL South West campaign, in a game that saw five goals, but two red cards for the visitors.
Player of the Match Charley Wilson-Wilton bagged both of Moneys’ two goals and came so close to a hat-trick, but it was ultimately just not to be on the legend’s final game at the John Jenkins Stadium.
Swindon Town were awarded a penalty on half an hour, when Sara Luce brought down Robins Forward, Annie Colston, with the Moneys keeper being awarded a yellow card for the challenge. Colston stepped up to the spot and sent Luce the wrong way, to put the visitors one-nil up after thirty-three minutes gone.
Swindon’s Izzy Cook was left one one-on-one with Luce just moments before half time, before she fired the ball into the bottom right-hand corner to make it two-nil to Richard Wood’s side.
Half time: Moneyfields 0-2 Swindon Town
Karl Watson made two changes ahead of the second half, with midfielder Brooke Garcia and forward Lucy Cooper making way for Britt Jeal and Bekah Tonks.
The away side did not take long after the interval to add a third to their lead and it was Izzy Cook the scoresheet again, after their forward eased past the Moneyfields defence, before dinking the ball over Luce in goal to make it three.
Former Swindon defender Katelyn Wort was Money’s third sub of the day, with Amber Howden making way for the centre back.
Moments later, Moneys found a goal back, when who else? But Charley Wilson-Wilton headed home Shannon Albuery’s cross in a sigh of relief after her previous goal was ruled out for offside.
Watson then made two final changes ahead of the final half an hour left to play, with Meg Fox and Olivia Venditto making way for Kimberly Fuller and Sarah Butterworth.
Swindon then received a straight red card when defender Sahara Osbourne-Ricketts had had enough of Shannon Alubery getting the better of her, diving with a reckless challenge with her studs firmly off the ground, which left Albuery on crutches at the final whistle.
It was then a second yellow for Lacy Liggett, after she talked back to the referee, with the official having no other choice but to card the midfielder again for dissent.
Wilson-Wilton then volleyed home the last bit of hope Moneys had, with one more minute to go, right after Swindon went down to nine players, to make it three-two.
It was almost a hat-trick right at the death and a remarkable comeback from Moneyfields, but Wilson-Wilton’s header went inches over the bar.
