First Team
Portsmouth Divisional Football Association Cup Final Tue 20 May PMC Stadium
Moneyfields
1 (2)
AFC Portchester
1 (3)
1-1 (2-3 pens)

Having enjoyed an incredibly fruitful second half of the campaign, Moneys will be hoping to finish with a piece of silverware to cap off a great campaign.

As for Portchester, and they have already achieved their main goal of the campaign, having finally won promotion out of the Wessex Premier Division by virtue of winning the title.

And Gav Spurway’s side will look to finish their season on a high too with another trophy, having already claimed the Russell Cotes and Wessex League Cups alongside their league success.

The route to the final has been pretty straightforward for Moneys, who brushed aside Liss Athletic, a Portsmouth XI and Horndean in order to get to the semi-finals, where they faced a tricky trip to Gosport Borough.

But there was to be a slight shock at the AEI Stadium, with Moneys winning 2-1 at the Step Three side in order to book a spot in the final.

As for the Royals, they have beaten Baffins Milton Rovers, Petersfield Town and the Royal Navy on their route to the showpiece event in Baffins (after receiving a bye in the First Round).

These two sides have found meetings pretty frequent over the recent years, although the last one was back in February 2024, when Portchester came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at the On-Site Group Stadium.

That was after the reverse fixture (which was also played in Portchester) saw a 4-2 Moneys win, with James Franklyn grabbing a brace in that one.

Royals Players to Watch

Ryan Pennery: The prolific striker will need no introduction to Moneys followers, having been a crucial member of Moneys’ Wessex Premier Division winning side in 2024.

Connor Duffin: The ex-Horndean and Gosport Borough attacker has been crucial in front of goal this term – scoring 25 times in 42 games.

Brett Pitman: The ex-Portsmouth and AFC Bournemouth striker has had multiple clubs this season, but returned to Wicor Road right at the back end of the campaign.

Neil Tomlinson:

“We’re really looking forward to this match. We’ve had a solid introduction to Step Four football this season and to now have a cup final to play caps off a good 11 months.”

“Portchester have obviously had an incredible year and it will be a good test against a local rival, I’m sure both teams are excited about the prospect.”

“Our focus is always on enjoying our football whilst continuing to develop. This game will be no different.”
