Saturday afternoon in West London, Moneys get their League season underway playing Southall at the SkyEx Community Stadium, home of Hayes & Yeading.
Moneys:
After Moneys own FA Cup win last weekend against Brockenhurst, the team had the week to focus on preparing for the start of the league season.
An own goal and a smart looping header from new recruit defender Yumo Wan, set up a tie on August 16th against local rivals AFC Portchester. Two goals from corners were enough to seel a first FA Cup win in two seasons in a game that had a lot of chances, but typical early season rustiness from both sides.
New signings Louis Gates and Asad Ssemwogerere both looked particularly sharp on opposite flanks, whilst in the centre of the pitch, former Pompey Academy Captain, Adam Payce was lively too.
Southall:
Southall head into the tie on the back of a 3-0 win over Little Common in their FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round replay on Wednesday night. That result sees them progress to the next round of the competition, but they’ll now turn their attention to league matters.
Having finished mid-table in the Isthmian South Central Division last season, Southall will be aiming to push on in 2025/26 with manager Max Howell continuing to build a competitive squad. They’ll also be playing home games at a new ground this year — the SkyEx Stadium in Hayes — which marks the beginning of a new chapter for the club.
The squad includes the lively forward Daniel Ogunleye, who has been a consistent goal threat in recent seasons, and midfield anchor Ashley Seber, known for dictating play. Their pre-season included tests against Harrow Borough and Spelthorne Sports as they looked to hit the ground running.

Previous Meetings:
Last seasons meetings with Southall in the league both ended in 3-0 victories for Moneys. In January we visited the 1878 Stadium with James Franklyn getting a brace either side of a goal from defender Tom Cain. The return fixture in March at the John Jenkins Stadium, saw Lewis Beale score either side of a Ryan Hope own goal. Beale’s first was a header inside the 6 yard box, from an expertly delivered cross by Pompey loanee, Ciaran Martin. His second came when the defender made an error with a pass back to the keeper and Beale snuck in to steal the ball, and poke it around the keeper.
Ones to Watch:
Nathan Jones: Named Man of the Match in their FA Cup victory over Little Common, Jones was pivotal in midfield with his composure and drive. He’s a key figure to watch in this fixture.
Brendan Matthew: Southall’s leading goal scorer for two consecutive seasons, Matthew is a constant threat in and around the box. With pace, strength, and an eye for goal, he’s the kind of striker who only needs a half-chance to make an impact.
Lanseny “Lass” Traoré: A dynamic midfielder who re-signed this summer, Traoré brings energy, intensity, and midfield presence that will be crucial for Southall’s engine room.
