Hartley Wintney made the trip to the south coast on Tuesday night, hoping to avenge their 3-0 loss from last season.

Within seconds ‘the Row’ were off and running. A fantastic whipped ball in was headed and saved well by Smarty. He also saved a rebounded attempt but it was third time lucky, as recent Hartley Wintney youth player, Kanye Moyo slotted in the early goal for the away team.

Moneys immediately tried to respond as Faris broke down the left and crossed low toward Blankson. Rudi connected with the ball and bundled it bottom corner. The ball has however hit the wheel of the moveable goal frame and bounced back out. The officials have not spotted this and believe it’s somehow not crossed the line.

That pressure paid off just after half an hour, when Faris Khallouqi got his second goal in as many games. Franko crossed from the right towards the penalty spot where Adam Payce had ran to, but he was quickly shut down. The ball deflected to Faris, where he placed the ball just inside the post, past the covering defender on the line.

Half-Time: Moneyfields 1-1 Hartley Wintney

The second half got under way for Hartley Wintney, but Moneys were again caught napping. Failed attempts to clear the ball on the edge of the box resulted in the ball falling to Sam Tanner who from the left edge of the box, drilled the ball across Smarty and into the bottom corner to give the North Hampshire side the lead inside 60 seconds of the restart.

Just 3 minutes later, Wintney scored a third. A free kick from near the half way line was headed expertly by Aaron Burchett from only just inside the box, down the Smartys bottom right. A perfectly placed header with the pace from the free kick, took it past Smarty and into the net.

This forced manager Callum Glen to try something different as the current plan wasn’t working. Blanksons runs and efforts were being blocked so Ngombi replaced him, seemingly to try more hold up play to bring other attackers into the game.

Further subs shortly followed as Alcock made his full debut replacing Gates in defence. O’Connell came on for Loz Cooper, all before the 70 minute mark.

With just 5 minutes left, Alex Body sealed the three points for Wintney. A cross was came in the from the left and Body found himself free in the box, with time to place it bottom corner.

There was one final double roll of the dice, as Asad and Holubec replaced Faris and JP. Sadly the game was over and Hartley closed the game out with a tough defensive display that Moneys just couldn’t find the key to unlock.
