After 5 days of much needed rest and recovery, Moneys return to the road for league action at the Iconic Stadium on Saturday August 30th, for a 3pm kick off against Binfield.

Moneys:
Last time out on Bank Holiday Monday, Moneys suffered their heaviest defeat in just over 8 months, losing 4-0 at last year’s Wessex Premier League champions, AFC Portchester. A result that Callum Glen and his Moneyfields side will quickly want to wipe from memory. Getting “old manned,” as Cal described it after the game, was not a fun watch in PO16 from the Moneyfields viewpoint.

A brutal first 45 minutes from ‘Portchy’ all but wrapped the game up by half-time, as two goals from Alfie Stanley alongside goals from Zak Willett and Ryan Wilkins, gave the Arancione all 3 points.

48 hours before that, Moneys hosted Hayes & Yeading United in the first of the Bank Holiday weekend double header. A game that both teams will look at with disappointment and satisfaction, in equal measures. Moneys came from behind twice in the first half, which Hayes will no doubt be furious about. But Moneys then had a two goal lead and let that slip too, so the game ended 4-4. You have to say that it felt like a loss having been the better team and having created many more opportunities than our visitors on the day.

The positives were first goals in competitive games for Moneyfields from Adam Payce, Rudi Blankson, as well as a brace from man of the Match, Louis Gates.

Gates scored two and assisted Rudi for his rocket of a goal. Whilst former Pompey academy captain Payce, switched those stats with a brilliant run and finish, alongside assisting both of Louis Gates’ goals.

Looking back further for our last success, we have to go back to the first league game of the season when Moneyfields visited the home of Hayes & Yeading. That was to play against Southall on August 9th in West London. Moneys left the SkyEx Community Stadium 0-2 victors, and will no doubt be hoping to repeat the success of that away day, when the win never looked at any risk.

Binfield:
Binfield have most recently seen back-to-back league wins, whilst before that had an FA Cup loss to Southern League Central Division side Marlow. They visited Buckingshire based Marlow and were knocked out by the fellow Step-4 side 2-1.

Back to league action, it was Binfield’s turn to visit the SkyEx Community Stadium to face Southall, where they came away on the positive side of a 2-1 scoreline. Goals from Ejiro Abbey and Montgomery Brady were enough for Binfield to take all 3 points with them back to their Berkshire village.

Their bank holiday ended with 6 points over the long weekend as they won at home on Monday, against Hartley Wintney. ‘The Moles’ as Binfield are known, had another 2-1 win against ‘the Row’. Logan Coles and Nathanael Boakye scored two second half goals to come back from a goal down and give Binfield a perfect 3-day weekend.

Previous Meetings:
Callum Glen and his team will be hoping to begin a repeat of last seasons double success against Binfield, as Moneys came away with all 6 points from the two games against Binfield.

Moneyfields visited the Iconic Stadium as recent as April 5th this year, towards the back end of last season. The trip to Binfield resulted in a late 0-1 victory for Glenn Turnbull’s side. Aldershot loanee, Harry Thorpe put away a penalty in the 3rd minute of added time in the second half away, after Cal Laycock was brought down inside the box.

Prior to that, Binfields visit to the John Jenkins stadium, saw a 5-0 win for Moneys with five different goalscorers. First half goals from Cal Laycock, James Franklyn, Harry Thorpe and an added time goal from Tom Cain saw the game wrapped up by half time. Jack Lee added to the tally midway through the second half, to wrap up a 5-star performance back on January 11th.
