Moneyfields Women return to the John Jenkins Stadium after four consecutive away matches on the bounce to welcome Abingdon United. This is the first time back at home since the team won 3-1 on the opening day of the season against Bridgwater United.
Last time out, Moneys suffered a 2-0 defeat away to AFC Bournemouth in the FA Women’s National League Cup Group E. The difference on the day came from two moments of quality by Cherries forward Sophie Quirk.
Manager’s Thoughts
First-team manager Karl Watson said, “It is going to be nice to be able to play in front of our own fans again, and I know the players have been looking forward to this moment.
“Home matches are always that bit more special – they give us a chance to showcase the hard work that’s gone into training and to share the journey with you, our supporters.”
Adding, “We come into this match in good confidence and perhaps a little baffled that we’ve not scored more goals given the chances that we’ve been creating. But the performances have been impressive, the effort has been unquestionable, and if we keep competing with the same intensity then we will continue to be difficult to beat.”
Sunday’s Opponents
Abingdon United have had a mixed start to the season with one win, one draw and one defeat. On the opening day of the season, they recorded a 4-1 win away against Bournemouth Sports. A visit from Swindon Town followed, the visitors leaving with a 6-1 victory. Last time out in the league, the points were shared with Marine Academy Plymouth after Carmen Morison scored a seventy-ninth minute equaliser as it finished 2-2.
