Karl Watson’s women’s team delivered a statement performance on Sunday afternoon, recording a thumping 9–2 home victory over Abinden in front of our supporters.

Watson praised his side not simply for the scoreline, but for the quality of their football and the consistency across almost the full 90 minutes. He said, “It feels very good, but not necessarily because of the score line. That’s just the consequence of doing the right things and doing them well,”

He added, “We’ve been creating so many chances in recent weeks, and I kept telling the girls that someone was going to be on the end of one soon. Today it clicked.”

Midfielder, Ali Hall, was named Player of the Match after an all-action display, though she was quick to highlight the collective effort. “It was about the team performance today. We’ve been wanting to take those chances and put the ball in the back of the net, and I thought across the park we were excellent. This win gives us the bit of confidence we needed.”

The day was made even more special with Dream Surin and Daisy Beard netting their first goals for the club. Watson was full of praise for the youngsters stepping up at senior level, “They’re good quality youngsters. Dream is someone I’ve admired for a couple of years, and Daisy has settled in well here. She’s maybe struggled a little with self-belief, but today will do her the world of good. We’re glad to have them.”

With the goals now flowing, Hall feels the team is starting to reach its potential, “From pre-season, we knew we had something special. Some of the football we’ve been putting together has been fantastic, but today rounded off weeks of hard work and maybe some frustration. There’s still more to do, but it’s coming together now.”

Watson was keen to keep his squad focused with a busy fixture schedule ahead, adding, “It’s one game at a time. We’ll reflect, analyse and look at the areas to improve, the same as every other week. There are still lots of little things we can do better, but we’ll go into next week prepared and focused.”

Next up, on Sunday 21st, Moneyfields Women make the short trip east to take on Worthing.
