Moneyfields return to FA Women’s National League Cup Group E action this Sunday as they welcome Bournemouth Sports to the John Jenkins Stadium for a 14:00 kick-off.

Karl Watson’s side currently sit third in the group on one point, following a 1-1 draw away at Ascot United in their opening fixture, before falling to a 2-0 defeat against group leaders AFC Bournemouth. The Cherries top Group E with six points, Ascot are second with four, while Sunday’s visitors sit bottom and are yet to register a point.

The visitors, managed by Vincent Marmion, have made a steady start to their FA WNL South West campaign, where they currently sit sixth on seven points. Moneyfields, by contrast, occupy second place with 13 points, but Watson is fully aware that Bournemouth Sports are a side who can frustrate opponents. Last season’s meeting at the John Jenkins ended 1-1, when midfielder Katie Kingshott — who went on to be named their Player of the Season — scored a stunning equaliser from outside the box.

Marmion strengthened his squad over the summer with five new additions, including Kelly Fripp and Maisy Smith from AFC Bournemouth, midfielder Abi Whistler, attacker Freya Jennings, and winger Ellie Elkins from Southampton Women. Off the pitch, Benson Miyoba also joined the backroom staff, adding further experience to the dugout.

Speaking ahead of the game, First Team Manager Karl Watson reflected on the challenge his side are expecting, “Vince and the guys are always dogged and determined. They always make it difficult for you. They tend to get lots of bodies behind the ball and challenge you in that way. But enough teams have done that against us now. If that’s how they go on Sunday, we’ll be ready for it. And if they come at us, we’re confident in the ability within the team.”

Moneyfields will be looking to use home advantage in their favour as they aim to secure their first win in Group E and keep themselves in the mix for progression. With the John Jenkins crowd growing in both size and voice this season, Watson’s side will be hoping the support can help push them over the line in what promises to be another tight and competitive encounter.
