Moneyfields FC Women booked their place in the second round of the FA Women’s National League Plate with an impressive 4–1 victory over Bristol City PGA on a damp afternoon at the John Jenkins Stadium.

The hosts started brightly and almost took an early lead in the fourth minute when Shannon Albuery forced a smart save from the Robins’ goalkeeper after some slick build-up play.

However, a minute later, the visitors struck first. A loose ball from a Bristol City corner fell kindly inside the box, and the young Robins reacted quickest to slot into the bottom corner of Hannah Haughton’s goal to make it 0–1.

Moneyfields looked for an immediate response and came close soon after, as Albuery was inches away from converting a teasing cross from Tierney Scott.

Karl Watson’s side didn’t have to wait long for their equaliser. In the 11th minute, Megan Fox collected the ball in midfield and played a superb through pass that sliced open the Robins’ defence to find Scott breaking down the left. After a neat first touch, Scott drove a low cross into the area where Ali Hall was waiting to turn home from close range and level the score.

Just a minute later, Scott went close herself, firing narrowly wide from outside the box. But she didn’t have to wait long to make her mark again. Pressing high up the pitch, Moneyfields forced the Robins into a mistake from a goal kick, and Scott capitalised on the loose clearance — controlling the ball before drilling a composed finish low into the bottom-left corner to put the hosts 2–1 ahead.

In the 24th minute, the same combination almost struck again. Scott’s pinpoint cross found Hall unmarked in front of goal, but the skipper’s header drifted just wide — much to the relief of the travelling Robins fans.

Hall didn’t have to wait long to make amends. After Albuery won the ball in midfield, she played a smart pass out to Beth Burgess on the right. Burgess whipped in a first-time cross, and Hall made no mistake, finishing confidently for her sixth goal in ten appearances to make it 3–1.

Albuery, who looked lively throughout the half, came close again soon after, cutting inside and firing narrowly wide of the far post from a tight angle.

The Robins came out for the second half with nothing to lose and started brightly, but Britt Jeal extended Moneyfields’ lead in the 49th minute. The substitute goalkeeper denied Burgess with her feet, but Jeal reacted first to the rebound, steering the ball home to make it 4–1.

Led by former Women’s Super League player Natalie Haigh, the visitors refused to give in and continued to play with heart and composure, though their limited chances failed to trouble Haughton.

Dream Surin replaced Burgess just after the hour mark, while Albuery thought she had added a fifth goal, only for the assistant referee’s flag to go up for offside — a decision that left the Moneys bench bewildered, with a Robins defender appearing to play her onside.

With five minutes remaining, 17-year-old Amie Chiddle was introduced for her second senior appearance, replacing Jeal.

Neither side was able to add to the scoreline in the closing stages, and Moneyfields saw out the match comfortably to secure their progression.

Their reward is an away trip to Maidenhead United in the second round on November 9th.
