Moneys:
10 goals, 1 conceded, 4 games, 4 wins. That’s how Moneys October looks so far. Quite the turnaround that has rocketed Moneys up the Isthmian League South Central Division, to sit 5th at the time of writing. Our game is Wednesday night, but there are 4 games Tuesday night, with the lowest we could fall after those 4 games is just 7th.

It’s been a busy spell with 4 games already in October and still 3 to go, as after Kingstonian we still have to travel to Fareham Town on Saturday 25th at 3pm and then host Bedfont Sports on Tuesday 28th at 7.45pm. Even those with the most yellow of Moneys-tinted-lenses, would never have predicted 12 points from a possible 12 after the start to the season. As I have previously written, its a massive achievement by Callum Glen and his coaching staff as well as to all the players involved.

Last time out was undoubtedly the best win on paper as Moneys ended 2nd place Raynes Park Vale’s, 5 game unbeaten run, 3-1 at the John Jenkins on Saturday. Moneys slipped back into old habits and despite a fast start, fell behind within 3 minutes to the visitors. However within another 5 minutes Faris Khallouqi squeezed the ball home and then Tom Jeffes put Moneys in the lead at 2-1 half time. A 3rd was added by James Franklyn, capitalising on a weak back pass for the second game in a row, this time lobbing the keeper to give Moneys a 3-1 win over Vale.

After the game, Moneys Manager Callum Glen said, “I thought that was our most impressive (of the 4 wins so far),” and “we were quite convincing to be honest.” If anything Glen went on to summarise that the squad have all been excellent, the subs all playing their part too, but that we need to take all of our chances as we are still missing chances that you would expect to score. In one viewpoint, its fantastic that we’re creating so many chances. The risk of course, we won’t always get so many chances, so when they come, we have to take them.

Kingstonian:
In their current guise, Kingstonian are another team in this league with a long history, going back to their formation in 1919 as the merger of two clubs; Kingston Town FC and Old Kingstonians FC. It’s a history that you could in fact call ‘a rich history’ when you look back over the last 30 or so years with some memories that I’m sure live long in the memory of ‘the K’s’ fans.

Kingstonian have played as high as what we now know to be called ‘the National League’. That came as a result of winning the old Isthmian League in 1997/98 into the old Conference. The success didn’t end their, as ‘the K’s’ went on to Wembley success, winning the FA Trophy in 1998/99 and retaining it in 1999/2000. The following year, cup runs moved to the FA Cup, as they reached a club record fourth round. They even defeated current Premier League side Brentford on that run.

Despite that cup success, Kingstonian were relegated that same 2000/01 season to the Ryman Premier, which was the same step as the now National League North and South. Then by 2004/05 they were in what is the Isthmian Premier League and relegated down to Isthmian Division 1. They stayed there until 2008/09 when they won their back up to the Isthmian Premier, a level they retained all the way until 2023/24 when they were relegated again, to meet Moneyfields for the first time ever, in 2024/25.

In other recent times, Kingstonian have been somewhat homeless, having called 4 different grounds ‘home’, since the start of the 2017/18 season. Financial woes brought the end to them owning their own ground ‘Kingsmeadow’ in 2003, as the reformed AFC Wimbledon stepped in to buy the ground and allow Kingstonian to have a favourable agreement to groundshare with ‘the Dons’. Unfortunately in 2015, Wimbledon sold Kingsmeadow to Chelsea. Since 2017, Kingstonian have called home to Leatherhead’s Fetcham Grove, Corinthian-Casuals’ King George’s Field and Tooting & Mitcham United’s Imperial Fields, before in 2024/25 agreeing to share home with Raynes Park Vale at Grand Drive.

Current Manager, Scott Harris has been in charge since October last year, although it was only a 5 day gap between when he started in April 2024 and temporarily leaving in October, only to almost instantly re-join. That brings us to almost the current day and their season so far sees them down in 14th, having racked 14 points from 10 games. Victories have come against Horndean, Hanworth Villa, Ascot United and Fareham Town so far, with only the win against Hanworth Villa coming at home. Last time out it was a loss at home to Littlehampton Town, 1-2.

Previous Meetings:
Just the two meetings ever between the clubs, and they were in the league last season. Kingstonian were the only team in the league to do the double over Moneyfields last season as Moneyfields narrowly missed out on the playoffs by 2 points. It was Kingstonian who were the team in 5th, claiming that final play-off spot. They were however knocked out in the Semi-Final on penalties by eventual winners, Uxbridge.

The two games both came within Moneys slow start to last season. Losing 1-3 at home to ‘the K’s’ in October and then 1-0 away in early November. Jafer Mahammed-Kier with that only goal for Moneys last season against Kingstonian.

Ones to Watch:
Joel Brown: Well how often is it, that a former player comes back to bite you. Never fall in love with a loan player. Last seasons Moneys loanee from Dorking Wanderers has so far turned out 10 times for Kingstonian, but is yet to score. Scoring isn’t Joel’s game necessarily, as he is always lively and offers an outlet for defenders whilst moving the ball forward too.

Stan Flaherty: Current active top-scorer for ‘the K’s’ with 4 goals after Moses Emmanuel left the club with 5 goals in August. The number 7 has only actually scored once in the league, back on the opening day, but has found the net on 3 occasions in cup action against teams of the same level. Flaherty played for Kingstonian last season, but is actually now on loan from Hampton & Richmond.

Sean O’Brien: The former Forest Green Rovers man, is top league scorer for Kingstonian with 3 so far, including the 1 goal last weekend in the loss to Littlehampton. The forward who often wears 10, also netted in the wins over Horndean and Hanworth Villa.
