Moneys visited the home of Raynes Park Vale to play Kingstonian on Wednesday evening, and it was yet another goal-fest involving Moneys. 8 of 12 league games have now featured at least 4 goals in the game.

An absolute lightning inside 3 minutes start for Moneys, as Max Smith overlapped Louis Gates on the right flank and drilled a targeted ball towards an unmarked Faris Khallouqi. The former Guildford City man took a touch to control, a step to the right and then fired the ball into the back of the net via a deflection or two off of the recovering bodies that tried to stop the effort. Faris netting his 3rd goal in as many games.

10 minutes weren’t on the clock yet though and Kingstonian levelled. Probably one of the nicest finishes to come against us this season as Dennis Kelmendi found the ball at feet just outside the Moneys box. He curled a shot low to Malachi’s bottom left corner which went inside the post and into the side netting to equalise and give Kingstonian the momentum.

14 minutes in a rough challenge on James Franklyn caused some handbags which resulted in Rocky Williams being booked for ‘the K’s’ as well as Moneys captain Tom Cain for his protests aimed at both Williams and the referee. As a result, a couple of minutes later, James Franklyn had to be replaced by Adam Payce.

The momentum that Kingstonian had built after equalising though, wasn’t capitalised on. Mostly against the run of play from the previous 10 minutes, Tom Cain spotted a run from Tayo around the last defender and curled a ball down the pitch in his direction. The defender tried to muscle Singerr off of the ball, but Tayo’s placement of his body once again was that of a player well beyond his years. He ended up free in the box as the keeper rushed towards him and from a tight angle, Tayo finished fantastically well under the keeper to restore Moneys lead on 21 minutes.

Barely 3 minutes later and that lead was extended. Faris found himself with the ball inside the centre circle and with acres of space infront of him despite the number of bodies loosely between him and the goal. He drove forward and unleashed a rocket of an effort into the top left hand corner of the goal on 24 minutes to give Moneys a 1-3 lead. It was Faris’ first double for Moneys and his 7th goal already from 12 games.

Throughout the remainder of the second half, the rain continued to pour and the game got sloppy, but Kingstonian battled hard and just about had the edge in the balance of play. That edge boiled into a rash challenge from Max Smith as the rain lashed down encouraging brave but sometimes mis-placed slide tackles. He brought down the K’s attacked in the box to give them a penalty. Joe Pratley-Jones took it and scored confidently to pull one back for the South London outfit.

Half Time – Kingstonian 2-3 Moneyfields

Barley 3 minutes were played in the second half, and Kingstonian levelled again. A corner came in and landed inside the 6 yard box but was somehow not cleared. A small scrabble ensued but Sean O’Brien poked the ball home to make it 3-3 on 48 minutes.

Kingstonian again would have felt like the game was there’s for the taking, but Tayo Singerr had other ideas. The Pompey youngster was fed a ball to run onto in the box from Adam Payce, where Singerr again found himself at a tight angle with the keeper rushing towards him. No drama for the striker as he calmly slid the ball under the keeper and into the net for a 7th goal of the game, and a 3-4 lead on 54 minutes. Like Faris, it was Tayo’s first double for Moneys, and his 5th goal in 8 games.

There was a number of subs as the game continued on in conditions that weren’t conducive to high quality football, as Lawrence Cooper replaced Faris on 64 minutes to help defend the lead as a change in shape was needed to combat Kingstonian’s attack. On 72 minutes, Jordan Pile replaced Adam Payce who was playing his first proper minutes after coming back from a broken foot. Then Kieran Alcock replaced Tayo Singerr to run himself ragged all over the pitch to support in both defence and help Moneys get up the pitch whenever we had a chance to break and run down the clock. Kieran even managed to hit the post from well outside the box with a brilliant shot that caught the K’s defence and keeper off-guard, but luckily for them it re-bounded just out of Simba Mlambo’s reach to control.

Full Time – Kingstonian 3-4 Moneyfields

A gritty win from Moneys in horrible conditions, that really exemplified the determination but also quality that this side possesses. It’s up to 3rd in the league from a 5th straight win in the league, with Fareham away on Saturday in a 3.30pm kick off at the Cams Alders Stadium.
