Moneys:
Wednesday nights 5th win in a row, saw Moneys climb up to 3rd in the Isthmian League South Central Division. Twice being pegged back, but eventually running out 3-4 winners in South London to take all 3 points from Kingstonian for the first time ever. This league position will be the highest Moneys have sat in the football pyramid since the 2018/19 season, where they finished 4th in the South Football League Division One South.
It was a return to the crazy goal fests that Moneys have become almost accustom to this season, with 8 out of the 12 league games having 4 or more goals so far. The positive side to take though is that it was a really gritty win from Moneys in horrible conditions, that really exemplified the determination but also quality that this side possesses.
The downsides were again we saw scrappy goalmouth scrambles resulting in one goal, a sloppy challenge to give a penalty away and the possible injury of vice-captain James Franklyn. Franko was subbed off early in the first half, but there is no news yet to whether he makes the matchday squad or not.
The team was unsurprisingly, unchanged from Saturdays win over high flying Raynes Park Vale, and that team was only changed by 1 as Louis Gates had come back in to replace Kieran Alcock. Faris Khallouqi’s double took him onto 7 goals for the season and puts him 2nd in the league with only 2 players having scored more than the Moneys winger. Tayo’s double took his goal tally up to 5 from the 8 games that he has played so far this season.
Fareham Town:
This season is the first time Fareham played above the Wessex Premier since 1998 and it was their first promotion since 1979. They’d been in the Wessex Premier since voluntary demotion from the old Southern League due to financial difficulties back in 1998.
I think is safe to say that Fareham’s adjustment to this equivalent level of football for the first time in 27 years, has been somewhat of a hard one. 12 games played, just 8 points accumulated from 2 wins and 2 draws, see Fareham sat bottom of the Isthmian League South Central Division.
They have seen some success as they beat Ascot United 1-0 back on August 23rd and then Littlehampton Town away from home, 0-4 just a few days later. But since then, they’ve only found 2 points from draws against Horndean and Southall. They shipped 7 away to Hendon in a 7-1 thrashing and 4 away to Binfield in a 4-1 loss last Saturday.
This week it was announced that goalkeeping social media sensation, Declan McCarthy was leaving the club to join nearby Sholing. The shot-stopper who posts videos online taken from his go-pro that he films the games with, was approached by the higher division team from the edge of Southampton in a move that I’m sure was impossible for him to refuse, considering how busy Fareham’s defence have had him in goal. As part of the deal, Charlie Searle has joined Fareham on a short term dual-reg whilst they seek a longer term option.

Previous Meetings:
Going back to 2014, Money’s have won 8 times against Fareham, drawn once and lost just the once.
That loss was actually the last time the two sides met, as Chichester City’s Oaklands Park hosted both Fareham and Moneys at the end of the 2023/24 season due to Fareham’s pitch being flood damaged and Moneys still waiting the completion of the John Jenkins. Fareham ran out 2-0 winners as the ‘home’ side on that April day last year.
The reverse fixture in the 2023/24 season for Moneys as the ‘home’ team played in October 2023, and was actually played at Fareham’s local rivals AFC Portchester’s Onsite Group Stadium. That day Moneys demolished Fareham in an 8-1 hammering. Cal Laycock and Ryan Pennery both getting a hat-trick for Moneys.
In the 2022/23 season, Moneys won 0-5 at the Cams Alders, but then drew 1-1 for Moneys ‘home’ game at Westleigh Park.
Ones to Watch:
Josh Benfield: According to former Fareham defender Tom Settle, Josh is the one to watch on Saturday afternoon. Although just the 1 goal to his name so far this season, he is quite the threat up-top and is due a strong performance. He’s started the last 5 games but has always been involved in attacking play. He is often the number 9 for Fareham.
Harvey Aston: Retained from the 2023/24 Wessex Premier play-off winning team, Aston who is the brother of Pompey academy player Mitch Aston. According to Fareham’s twitter account, is a versatile midfielder who loves a headed goal. Aston has so far played in 11 of Fareham’s 12 league games this season.
Charlie Cooper: Joint top scorer for Fareham so far this season with 2 goals, he has actually only started 6 of his 11 league appearances this season. He got the consolation goal in the 7-1 hammering by Hendon and scored one of the 4 against Littlehampton. If he starts, he tends to wear the number 7 jersey.
