Moneyfields FC Women continued their strong run of form with a commanding 6–0 victory over Keynsham Town on Sunday, a result that keeps Karl Watson’s side full of confidence heading into a busy November.
Despite the emphatic scoreline, Manager Karl Watson described the performance as “a bit of a mixed bag,” reflecting on a match that saw moments of brilliance mixed with signs of complacency.
“There were some very good points, but also some periods where maybe we got a bit comfortable and a bit casual,” Watson said after the game. “We definitely should have got a lot more on the scoresheet, but the girls carried on fighting until the end like they always do. Six-nil — job done. On to the next one.”
Moneyfields dominated from the outset, striking the post twice and rattling the crossbar three times before finding their rhythm late in the first half. Despite several missed chances, Watson praised his side’s persistence.
“It felt like another one of those days where the ball just wouldn’t go in,” he admitted. “But once we got into gear just before half-time, we added another three goals and it started to flow a bit more.”
At the heart of the victory was striker Shannon Albuery, who marked her return to scoring form with a well-deserved hat-trick.
“I’m over the moon,” said Albuery. “It’s taken a while for me to start scoring again, and I probably could have had a few more to be honest — but I’m happy with three!”
When asked about competition for goals among the squad, Albuery laughed off suggestions that teammate “Foxy” was pulling ahead. “Yeah, she was! I thought, ‘She’s not beating me,’ so I had to try and catch up a bit. It was just nice to get the goals today.”
With the win now behind them, attention quickly turns to Wednesday night’s rescheduled fixture against Bournemouth Sports — a quick turnaround that Watson insists won’t change their approach.
“We prepare the same for every game,” he explained. “This one’s in the history books, and we move on to Bournemouth. We know a lot about them — they’re a side that never say die and make it really difficult for you. It’s another challenge and another obstacle to overcome as we push toward our objectives.”
