It was yet another player of the match award for full-back Olivia Venditto, who’s form continues to thrive for Moneyfields FC Women
Yesterday, Karl Watson’s side earned a gritty, yet deserved three points at the South West Interiors Stadium, with a 1-0 victory over Bristol Rovers, which moved Moneys up to the 1st in the FA Women’s National League Division One South West.
Venditto has started all 15 competitive matches so far this season, where she has racked up a total of 1,242 minutes of football, one goal, and an average win percentage of 73% when she has been on the pitch.
Yesterday was a rather different playing surface from the typical 3G that Moneys are used to, with a muddy grass pitch at Yate Town, but that made no difference for Moneys yesterday.
Going into the game, Liv changed her boots to a pair of bright blue Nike Mercurials with metal studs to accommodate the conditions of the pitch.
On the change of boots, Liv said: “I don’t normally wear metals to be fair (she laughed), but I had this one (Karl Watson) in the back of my head, knowing that if I slipped, I’d be having a telling off, but overall I thought
“It was a really good performance from the girls.”
Towards the back end of the game, Moneys had to fight till the end to ensure that Rovers could not pump the ball up the field, with captain Ali Hall and Britt Jeal working hard in the left corner of the byline to protect the ball.
On the battles, Venditto believes: “It’s tough, but good at the same time, it’s why we play football, so it’s good to have those physical battles in there and to be able to cross it over the line with the win.”
In just under two weeks, Moneyfields will endure arguably their toughest test yet this season, when they travel to the County Ground to face second-place Swindon Town in a top-of-the-table clash in Wiltshire.
On the Swindon tie, Liv added: “I am really looking forward to it, the whole month has been building up to that moment, and this game (Bristol Rovers away) as well.
Having that momentum, we know that we can push forward with it.”
