FA Cup Preliminary Round Sat 16 August John Jenkins Stadium
Moneyfields
AFC Portchester
15:00

Saturday afternoon at the John Jenkins, see’s a local derby in the FA Cup as we host fellow Isthmian South Central Division, AFC Portchester in the Preliminary Round at 3pm.

Moneys:
Moneys FA Cup journey started at home against Wessex Premier side, Brockenhurst back on August 2nd. A two-one victory saw Moneyfields progress in a tight battle, full of early season missed opportunities.

Despite the nervous start of Brockenhurst taking the lead, it was Moneys who prevailed with two goals from set-pieces. First was an own goal off of a Jordan Pile corner, then a Yumo Wan header from another JP corner in the second half, was enough to see Moneys progress.

Since then Moneys have won away at Southall to start their league campaign, but then lost at home during the week to Hartley Wintney.

Southall who were playing at Hayes & Yeading’s SkyEx Community Stadium in near 30 degree heat, saw a competent performance from a Moneyfields side still finding their rhythms, with many new faces both on and off the pitch. There was plenty of positives to take in a game that Moneys looked mostly comfortable for the majority of the 90 minutes.

The same can’t be said for the midweek game against Hartley Wintney. A very early goal from the visitors gave them a quick advantage, but it was Moneys who went in happier at half time with a goal and the momentum as the match edged in favour of Callum Glen’s side. However, in the second half Hartley Wintney were ruthless, from their perspective scoring 3 good goals without answer.

Moneys will undoubtedly be looking to bounce back from the defeat and hope thats the only team in orange who walks away from the JJ with a victory this week.

AFC Portchester:
Our visitor’s have had an entertaining start to the season. A late equaliser for Melksham Town in the FA Cup forced a replay with Lee Wort stealing the show with a Puskas Award worthy goal to see Portchester progress into the next round.

Following their FA Cup exploits Bognor Regis Town was up first in the first Step 4 game for the ambitious club, again there was late drama, as after being 4-1 up, ‘The Rocks’ netted a 97th minute winner. A Creekside derby was up next, this time it was our visitors who were to come from behind, being 2-1 down at the break. Two second half goals secured the three points in the first ‘El Creekio’ of the season.

Last season Portchester romped their way to the Wessex Premier Division title with a points total of 103, scoring 120, while only conceding 25 all season. Only their way to the title ‘The Royals’ lost just the single game, drawing 4 and winning an impressive 33 league game.

The League title was first of four pieces of silverware they won last season.

At the OnSite Group Stadium, Hamble were the victims of Portchester’s success, losing 2-0 in front of just over 650 people in the Wessex League Cup Final, making it 2 out 4 trophy’s won.

Number 3 came just a few days later, when AFC Stoneham were defeated in the Russel Cotes Cup Final 3-1 by ‘The Royals’ at the Stoneham Lane Football Complex.

Moneys did meet AFC Portchester once last season, in the PDFA Cup Final, a last minute equaliser from Jafer Mahammedkier for Moneys sent the game to a penalty shoot-out, which Portchester won 3-2, completing their Quadruple.
