Karl Watson’s side kick-start their FAWNL South-West campaign with a win against Bridgwater United at the John Jenkins Stadium.
A wonder first-half goal from Meg Fox, followed by a free-kick in the second half from 20 yards out from the birthday girl, and a penalty from Shannon Albuery was the difference in the first game of the 2025/26 campaign.
Despite Bridgwater’s attempt at a comeback after the interval, where they equalised just before the hour mark, Moneys showed discipline and managed to see out the win.
There was a debut for full-back Dream Surin, who signed early this morning, just hours ahead of kick-off from Southampton FC Women Under-21’s for the 2025/26 season.
Newly appointed Club Captain Ali Hall led the team out this afternoon, on her first competitive Moneys game, along with keeper Hannah Haughton, and Rose Sitarz, who re-joined Moneys in the summer, plus Mia King and Tierney Scott, who were both on the bench.
Moneys took the lead inside the opening 20 minutes, and it was some strike from Birthday girl Meg Fox, whose effort from 30 yards out flew into the top left-hand corner of Charlotte Johnson’s goal to make it one-nil
Watson’s side then had the ball in the net again through Ali Hall, who finished off Abuery’s cross; however, the skipper was marginally offside and the goal was disallowed.
Britt Jeal then had a chance to make it two, after the midfielder picked up a low cross aimed just inside the 18-yard box, but the number 18’s effort at goal flew over the Bridgwater goal.
Half time: Moneyfields 1-0 Bridgwater United
Bridgwater did find an equaliser an hour gone, when Beatriz Kretteis was left one-on-one with Haughton, before the United number 17 slotted the ball home to make it one-all.
Fox was at it again, this time to put Moneys back in front and make it a brace for herself on her birthday, and it was some free-kick to do so, when the midfielder’s set piece zoomed into the top right-hand corner to make it two-one just moments after Bridgwater’s equaliser.
The hosts were then awarded a penalty just five minutes later, after Albuery was tripped in the area, before the number nine stepped up to the spot to strike the ball into the bottom left-hand corner to make it 3-1.

Moneys kept piling on the pressure for a fourth goal, with chances from Albuery with a header from a corner and Ali Hall late on, but Watson’s side were unable to extend their lead to four goals to one.
