Moneys return to the road for the first time in four games, hoping for a repeat of the last away day, which was a successful trip to West London
It’s a 3pm kick off in the Isthmian South Central Division at AFC Portchester on Bank Holiday Monday.
Moneys:
Moneys last league outing was the final of 3 straight games at home for Callum Glen’s new look Moneyfields. A bonkers 4-4 game against Hayes & Yeading United, where Moneys came from behind twice, to then take a two goal lead, only to end up sharing the points with the visitors.
First goals in competitive games for Moneyfields from Adam Payce, Rudi Blankson and a brace from Man of the Match Louis Gates, put the four goals on the board.
Gates scored two and assisted Rudi for his rocket of a goal. Whilst former Pompey academy captain Payce, switched those stats with a brilliant run and finish, alongside assisting both of Louis Gates’ goals.
Previously we played this Bank Holiday Monday’s opponents AFC Portchester in the FA Cup, infront of a bumper 400+ crowd, a new record for Moneyfields at the John Jenkins Stadium.
Sadly, our FA Cup journey ended at the second stage, with a 1-2 loss, having been 1-0 up at the break. Arguably the game probably deserved to be a draw, but Moneys will have plenty of positivity to take from the game, and plenty of lessons for the players and coaching staff that are new to Step 4 football.
Making his debut against Portchester was Jack Farrier who seemed to fit in very well to the Moneys side. Jack has joined us signing on a short term deal from Chichester City.
Starting in midfield and looking calm early on, Farrier then had to adjust to cover the injury of Tom Jeffes, moving into the centre-back position alongside Captain Tom Cain. He was selected as Man of the Match for the performance so we may see him play again depending on the injury status of TJ.
The midweek game before, had us welcome North Hampshire side, Hartley Wintney, back on Tuesday 12th August.
It was a game that on reflection, looks a lot worse on paper than the scoreline necessarily presents. A brutally clinical second half from Wintney as they took all 3 points, scoring 3 second half goals without reply, having been level 1-1 at the break. Faris Khallouqi getting Moneys solitary goal of a 1-4 loss.
AFC Portchester:
Either side of our FA Cup meeting on August 16th, Portchester have had mixed results in the league.
On Saturday 23rd they lost away at recently relegated Bedfont Sports, 2-0. The first time the PO16 side have failed to score this season.
Tuesday 12th August ‘Portchy’ faced rivals Fareham Town at Fareham’s Cams Alders stadium. Portchester came away with all 3 points from the first “El Creekio” of the season, with a 2-3 scoreline. Two goals from Connor Duffin, were either side of a Zak Willett goal, to give Portchester the win.
Probably the result Portchester will really want to forget is the 4-5 loss to Bognor Regis Town back on August 9th. Portchy hosted also recently relegated Bognor and lead 4-1, but Bognor completed a remarkable comeback to take all 3 points. There was former Moneys players in both sides and on both scoresheets as Jack Lee and Ryan Pennery scored for Portchester, and Cal Laycock scored the second for Bognor.

That was our only meeting in 2024/25 as Moneys competed at Step 4 whilst Portchester were repeating Moneyfields previous season efforts of winning the Wessex Premier League.
In that 2023/24 title winning season, Moneys won at ‘home’ 4-2 against Portchester, in a game that was held at their Onsite Group Stadium. Moneys were of course awaiting the completion of the John Jenkins Stadium so played at ‘home’, at many different locations.
After that 4-2 win, Portchester held Moneys to a 2-2 draw in the Aranciones home leg of the season.
