An unchanged Moneys starting XI and bench was named to face Egham Town on Tuesday night, with hopes of a first back to back league win of the season. Recently promoted Egham visited the John Jenkins without a league win to their name from their 3 league games, but Moneys came into this off of a fantastic comeback win against Bognor a week prior.

Moneys were without Manager Callum Glen on the side-lines, as he and partner Sophie’s baby, Charlie Glen, was delivered shortly before kick-off.

Not conceding within the first 15 minutes of a league match for the first time since the opening game of the season, gave all related to Moneys some hope for a good performance. In fact it was Moneys who possibly should have taken the lead, if it wasn’t for a superb save from ‘Sarnies’ keeper, Michael Edegbe. On the quarter hour mark, Lawrence Cooper broke free with the ball from an Egham corner and released the overlapping Faris Khallouqi for a one on one. He shot from the edge of the box, but a flailing arm from Edegbe was enough to put the ball off target and out for a corner.

Moments later, veteran Tom Jeffes saw yellow for a very late challenge on the edge of the Moneys box.

About 5 minutes before half time, Egham took the lead. A ball that was going out for a Moneys throw, was opted to be kept in by recently in-form defender Louis Gates, but his attempted loft forward gave the ball straight back to Egham. They broke with the ball and Jordi Ebanda put it into the Moneys net to give the visitors the lead.

Half Time – Moneyfields 0-1 Egham Town

In brutal honesty, the game from both sides in the second half became scrappy, tetchy and generally low in entertainment from the perspective of anyone watching the game.

On minute 50, Callum Kimber replaced Jordan Pile and then on the 58th minute, Simba Mlambo replaced Rudi Blankson who came off after looking like he’d jarred his knee in a challenge. Fingers crossed Rudi is okay as he has been in great goalscoring form as of late.

Kimber came on and tried to get a hold of the game by the scruff of the neck you might say. So much so, the referee booked him in the 70th minute for a rough challenge.

One last throw of the dice in the 82nd as Ibrahim Busari came on for Louis Gates. Ib did have a good impact, winning the ball back from tired looking Egham players, but sadly nothing he did could amount to anything of great success.

Moneys did huff and puff in the last 10-15 minutes as the referee allowed roughly 7 minutes added time, with Moneys keeper Malachi Osei-Owusu even coming up for a corner in the 96th minute. Sadly it was to no avail as a match lacking in real quality and clear cut chances from either side, probably deserved to be 0-0. It was however a second home defeat of the season for Moneys, which leaves Callum Glen’s side 12th out of 22 in the league standings.
