It’s back to league action for the first time in almost three weeks for Moneyfields Women on Sunday, when they welcome Maidenhead United Women to the John Jenkins Stadium in a 2pm kick-off.
Despite going through to the FA Women’s National League Plate, Moneys had a disappointing defeat in their first and only Adobe FA Women’s Cup tie of the campaign, when they were defeated 4-0 by Fulham at Motspur Park last weekend.
First Team Manager, Karl Watson, said, “The start of this week was a difficult one for everyone involved with the team. As a group, we were deeply frustrated to come away from Motspur Park with a defeat. It’s never easy to take, but what matters now is how we respond. Rather than dwell on the disappointment, we’ll use it as motivation.”
Opposition Overview:
Originally, Maidenhead started as Burnham LFC, before transitioning to Maidenhead United Women at the start of the 2008/09 season.
In their first full season, the Berkshire-based side enjoyed immediate success when they won the Southern Regional Women’s football league by a solid ten-point margin and gained progression into the first round proper of the Women’s FA Cup.
The Magpies are managed by EFL journeyman Dave Kitson, who, so far in his first full season in management, has his side sitting in seventh place in the FAWNL South West, on five points, eight behind Moneys, who occupy second on 13 points.
Kitson, who was part of Reading’s famous promotion to the Premier League in 2006, at the time became Stoke City’s club record fee, when he signed from the Royals for a fee in excess of £5 million.

The 45-year-old, however, is very familiar to Portsmouth fans, as he made 68 appearances for Pompey over two seasons in the Championship over eleven years ago.
Up until June this year, United were managed by Ed Jackson-Norris, who enjoyed a comfortable three-year spell in the fourth tier before jumping ship to the newly reformed Reading Women.
Last Meeting:
Date: 9th February 2025
Final Score: Maidenhead 1-2 Moneys
Goal-scorers: Wilson-Wilton, Albuery
Competition: FAWNL Division One South West
Venue: York Road
Daisy Beard: “We’re Ready to Show What We’re Made Of”
After a tough defeat away at Fulham last weekend, Daisy Beard and her teammates are eager to return to the pitch and respond in the best possible way. The forward spoke about the team’s preparation during the week and the determination within the squad to put things right.
“It’s been a really good week of training,” Beard explained. “We’ve worked hard as a group, and we’re all looking forward to showing what we can do as a team. We want to bounce back and prove what we’re made of. On a personal level, I’m ready to make an impact and contribute — I’m itching to get back to winning ways.”
That hunger and drive have been evident throughout the season, particularly at home. The team currently boasts a 100% record at the John Jenkins Stadium, something Beard believes is crucial to maintain as the campaign continues.

“It’s really important to keep that momentum going and make sure the fans stay engaged, knowing how strong we are at home,” she said. “Creating that fortress mentality will hopefully make other teams wary of coming here. I love the atmosphere at the John Jenkins — it gives us such a boost every time we play.”
With renewed focus and confidence, Beard and her teammates are determined to build on their impressive home form and show their true quality as they look to bounce back this weekend.
