Moneys:
Wednesday night saw Moneys go up to 7th in the league after an emphatic 4 goal victory away at Bognor Regis Town. It wasn’t just Moneys third win in a row, but a third clean sheet in a row as well. Positivity and confidence is at an all time high under Callum Glen in the Moneys camp, but this Saturdays game will likely be a much tougher game, with Raynes Park Vale riding high.

On the victory in his post game chat, Moneys Manager Callum Glen said, “We performed really well,” and, “I thought we probably were due to give someone a little bit of a hiding, we’ve missed a lot of chances last couple of games. I’m just pleased with the whole squad really.” The last time Moneys scored 4 (or more) without reply, was way back in January, when Moneys beat Binfield 5-0 at the John Jenkins. It makes the 4 goal victory with a cleansheet, away from home against opposition who last season were a division higher, even more impressive.

The addition of Max Smith in midfield has undoubtedly given a huge boost in confidence through the middle of the park. Max combined with Jack Farrier have been fantastic at covering when defenders push forward, or taking their own turn at moving out from the back with the ball. Obviously they’ve been huge defensively too, with those 3 clean sheets on the bounce.

On the visit of Raynes Park Vale and not getting carried away, Glen said, “in this league, every game is competitive, you’ve got to make sure you’re at your levels. We know if we aren’t at it, we’ll get beat.” Talking about the turnaround in form, “we’ve had some tough times already this season and some good times, but its a long season and we’re only a quarter of the way through it. We’re just excited to play again Saturday.”

Saturday see’s the half way point in what is now a 7 game month. Two games have been moved into December (Hartley Wintney and Harrow Borough both away) due to both teams cup fixtures taking priority. After Raynes Park, Moneys still have to travel to Kingstonian (Wednesday 22nd) and Fareham (Saturday 25th), whilst also hosting Bedfont Sports (Tuesday 28th).

Raynes Park Vale:
The first notable prominence of a football club in the Raynes Park community was as early as 1925 when Southern Railways Football Section was formed. That club was originally based at Raynes Park Sports Ground, which is less than a mile away from the current club’s home. The Southern Railway Team fell victim to the notorious 1963 Beeching spending cuts, a national review into modernising the UK’s railways. Southern Railways 1950s home kit was gold and green quarters, the company colours.

Southern Railway Football Section eventually reformed a year following Southern Railway’s deformation in 1964 as Raynes Park Football Club. The current club Raynes Park Vale was formed in 1995 following the merger of Raynes Park and Malden Vale (formed 1967).

Raynes Park Vale have been playing at Step 4, in the Isthmian League South Central Division, since 2023/24. The 2022/23 season concluded with Raynes Park Vale winning the Combined Counties Premier South League champions on 99 points.

Back to current days, its no doubt that Raynes Park Vale have had a fantastic start to the their league campaign. After 13 games, they’ve only lost twice and have won 7. That’s left them just a point off of top, but they have played 2 games less than leaders Leatherhead. They have actually managed to play more games than anyone else in the league so far, but they are 5 points clear of 3rd placed Hanworth Villa, who have played just 11 games.

Their current run of form sees them unbeaten 5 games, but the first 3 of those games, did end in draws. They last lost away to Hayes & Yeading, back on Tuesday 23rd September in a 2-0 loss away from home. After their run of drawn games, they hosted AFC Portchester last weekend and ran out comfortable 3-0 victors. Goals from Ibrahim Bangura from the spot, Kareem Akinnibi and Tyler Cox gave Vale all 3 points.

During the week they travelled to Egham Town, where ‘the Sarnies’ had their 7 game unbeaten run brought to an end. It took two second half goals from recent signing Danai Hassan to claim the win.

Previous Meetings:
Just the two meetings between Moneys and Raynes Park Vale, with those coming in the Isthmian South Central Division, just last season.

Vale hosted Moneys back on September 24th 2024 at Grand Drive, with the points being shared in a 2-2 draw. James Franklyn gave Moneys an early lead, but Vale saw themselves 2-1 ahead at half time. Cal Laycock got a second half goal to make it honours even.

On April 19th this year, Moneys hosted Vale at the John Jenkins and it was Moneys who came away with all 3 points. Harry Thorpe gave Moneys the lead inside 2 minutes and Tom Jeffes popped up with a rare goal in first half added time for a 2-0 half time lead. Vale got one back late in the second half, but then Ciaran Martin scored a fantastic goal, finishing with the outside of his right foot around the keeper. Vale did get another goal but it finished 3-2 in favour of Glenn Turnbull’s men.

Ones to Watch:
Danai Hassan: Hassan joined Raynes Park Vale back in mid-September, but in 9 games, has already scored 4 times. He actually started the last 5 games on the bench, but came off to score the equaliser against Hartley Wintney and both goals against Egham Town. The former Blackpool youth player will be a big job for the Moneys defence to manage.

Tyler Cox: Cox has appeared 14 times so far for the Vale, and is the second top scorer on 5 goals. He scored 1 of the 3 goals against AFC Portchester last weekend, and has scored goals againgst Harrow Borough, Bognor Regis Town, Egham Town and Bedfont Sports so far this season.

Kenny Beaney: Often wearing number 8, Beaney is Raynes Park Vale’s Captain. 2 goals from midfield so far as he scored in wins over Bognor Regis Town and Binfield. Beaney started the season at Leatherhead but seems to have taken the armband with pride and pushed Vale from strength to strength since joining.
