A second PO postcode derby in 5 days for Moneys, as they travelled to Chichester City’s Oaklands Park to face Bognor Regis Town in Isthmian League South Central action.
Moneys Manager Callum Glen made 1 change in the starting XI as Kieran Alcock came in for Louis Gates, whilst on the bench, Harry Close came in to replace Jack Lumsden.
It was a bright start for Moneys who got into the game straight away. Inside 10 minutes, Faris Khallouqi crossed into the box and Simba rose well over the taller defender he was battling to head the ball towards goal, but it went just over.
Just inside 15 minutes a strong challenge from Alcock had the home players and fans screaming for a free kick and more, and the referee agreed so a yellow card was issued.
Just after half an hour, Louis Gates was brought on to replace Kieran Alcock. Being on a yellow card already, with the fast South Korean winger in Seok-Jae to deal with, it was an understandable decision.
There was plenty of action but not many real clear cut chances for either team in the first 45. However just before half time, Moneys won a free kick right on the edge of the box. Franko took it, but ‘the Rocks’ keeper Dan Lincoln saved well.
Half Time – Bognor Regis Town 0-0 Moneyfields
With just about 5 minutes on the clock of the second half, Moneys took the lead. Max Smith had been played into the left hand side of the box and whipped a low cross into the box. Lincoln didn’t cope well with the ball and fumbled it onto the on-rushing Tayo Singerr’s thigh, where it bounced straight off of him and into the goal.
10 minutes later on the hour mark, the lead was doubled. Faris attacked down the left flank and into the box, where after 1 step over, he drilled a trademark rocket of a shot at the Bognor goal. The keeper saved but pushed the ball right into the path of James Franklyn. From just to the right of the penalty spot, Franko picked his spot and placed the ball in the bottom left hand corner to score his first goal League goal of the season.
On 65 minutes, after a fantastic shift, Simba Mlambo was replaced by Lawrence Cooper. Whilst not in the goals tonight, Simba was brilliant at doing his part to get back and help in defence, whilst also holding the ball up well and releasing it at the right time when support arrived.
With just over15 minutes left, Bognor threatened to counter but Max Smith brought the counter to an end with a cynical foul, so he joined Alcock in the referees notebook.
Then on 75 minutes, Moneys made it 3. A poor back pass from a Bognor defender, didn’t have the legs to get back to goalkeeper Lincoln, and Franko jumped on the opportunity. He ran onto the ball, turning right across goal and around the keeper to slot the ball into an empty net, and get his second of the night.
Did someone say fournilwrittenalloveit? It was Faris’ turn to get back into the goals next as he scored his first goal in 4 games, since the 3-2 win over Bognor, last month. A sumptuous through ball from Pompey loanee Ciaran Martin set Faris through on goal. He cut inside the keeper and slotted the ball just inside the post to give Moneys a 0-4 lead.
With roughly 10 minutes left to play, Max Smith got a round of applause from many around the ground as he came off for Jordan Pile.
Then with just a few minutes left to play Callum Kimber and Harry Close came on for Jack Farrier and James Franklyn. Close making his first full League appearance for Moneys, who has been brilliant for the Reserves and earnt his opportunity with recent hard graft.
Full Time Bognor Regis 0-4 Moneyfields
An un-four-getable night at Oaklands Park four Moneys. All four-based puns aside, as good as Moneys have been playing, I don’t think many saw a 0-4 smashing on the horizon. Away from home as well, so Callum Glen and his squad must be commended for what was a fantastic performance. It’s up to 7th in the league, 1 point off the play-offs. Next up it’s 2nd place Raynes Park Vale at the John Jenkins on Saturday at 3pm.
