Tuesday night saw the visit of Bedfont Sports to the John Jenkins for a 7th and final game of a packed October that had seen Moneys go undefeated in the previous 6.

It took the best part of 15 or so minutes before there was any real action of note at either end. Faris first flashed an effort across the face of goal, and then 10 minutes later he repeated the cross/shot across goal where Tayo Singerr was there but the pace must have deceived him, as he to his own disbelief couldn’t convert the cross.

Not to worry as on 29 minutes, Tayo did give Moneys the lead. Moneys captain Tom Cain spotted Tayo in a crazy amount of space on the edge of the box, right in-front of goal. A beautiful dink into him, followed by some superb control and strength from Singerr to hold off the defender, with Tayo then finishing low round the keeper.

Before the first half was over, Max Smith was first booked for a late challenge on the edge of Moneys box, and then Faris earned a yellow card for kicking the ball away in frustration after having given away a free kick.

Half Time – Moneys 1-0 Bedfont Sports

A half time change was made as Faris was swapped for Rudi Blankson, primarily it would appear to protect him after the earlier yellow card.

Not long into the second half, Jack Farrier got himself into the referees notebook. He tugged down a Bedfont player by the shirt to stop a counter attack to earn the yellow card.

Just inside the hour mark, Moneys doubled their lead. In an almost identical assist, Caino again spotted a Moneys forward with ample space to manoeuvre into. This time it was Simba Mlambo towards the right hand edge of the box that Caino picked out. Simba sublimely brought the ball down and caressed it with one touch into his own path to run onto. The keeper rushed him but Simba calmly dinked it over him and into the net for a 2-0 lead.

On 70 minutes, Simba and Max were replaced by Kieran Alcock and Jordan Pile as the game seemed under control. Max seemingly still suffering with a small knock and Simba had run everywhere, getting involved all over the right hand side in both defence and attack.

Throughout the whole game in spells, but in large parts through the later end of the game, Ciaran Martin ran his socks off. He ran up and down the left channel in attempts to find Moneys a third, but sadly it never came. He would always recover well though and snuffed out many promising looking attacks down the attacking right for Bedfont, which they seemed to favour attacking.

A very late sub in added time as Jack Farrier was replaced by Harry Close, but it was only seconds later that the referee blew his whistle and brought to an end to the game and an undefeated 7 game streak through October for Moneys.

Full Time – Moneys 2-0 Bedfont Sports

In honesty, it never really looked like that unbeaten run would come to an end, as it was a relatively comfortable performance from the Moneys squad who looked largely composed and in control of the game for almost its entirety. Despite the win, Moneys stayed in 4th as Westfield in 3rd also won on Tuesday night. Moneys (on 27 points) sit just 1 point behind 2nd place Raynes Park Vale, who have played a game more. It’s only a further point gap to Leatherhead at the top, but they’ve only played 12 games compared to Raynes Park Vale’s 15 and Moneys 14.
