On Sunday, Moneyfields FC Women return to FA Women’s National League Division One South West action, as we welcome Keynsham Town to the John Jenkins Stadium in a 14:00 kick-off.

Moneys come into this game fresh off going through to the second round of the FA WNL Plate, after we defeated Bristol Rovers PGA 3-1 at the JJ just under two weeks ago.

Karl Watson’s side were meant to be in action during midweek; however, our visit away to Bournemouth Sports was postponed, and we will confirm a new date in due course.

Going into Sunday, Moneys are now up to 2nd place on goal difference, as Bristol Rovers, who were originally 2nd, were defeated 2-1 by top of the table Swindon Town at the Memorial Stadium on Tuesday.

Opposition Overview:

Keynsham Town Ladies were founded in 1993 when they were known as ‘Super Strikers’ Girls F.C., where they were an under-11s six-a-side team playing indoor football.

Eventually, the team at that time attracted enough players to start competing in eleven-a-side friendlies, where they changed their name to ‘Protel Super Strikers’, adopting a green, white, and black strip.

In the 1998/99 campaign, they officially named themselves Keynsham Town, where in that season they entered what was known as the Division Two South West Women’s League, where they finished in 3rd place.

Changing their name to Keynsham, the ladies’ team then became closely affiliated to the men’s club, where they have since shared the same clubhouse facilities for over 25 years.

In today’s world, Town have only been in Moneys’ league for just shy of three years, and were actually competing in the third tier (FA WNL South), but in the 2021/22 season were unfortunately relegated when the FA cut 30% of the division that year.

Barrie Newton’s side currently sit 10th in the league table on 6 points, 10 behind Moneys, who occupy 2nd place on 16 points, going into Sunday’s tie.

Town go into Sunday’s tie off the back of a 2-2 draw at home to Portishead in midweek, and last Sunday, Newton’s Ladies managed to reach the second round of the Adobe FA Women’s Cup after they defeated Bournemouth Sports 1-0 on home soil.

First Team Manager, Karl Watson, recognises how tough Sunday’s opposition will make it, “They’re the same every year—always hardworking, always giving their all. They’re always a tough side to face, and I don’t expect Sunday to be any different.”
