Moneys:
November didn’t quite get off to the same positive start that was hoped, as Moneys lost for the first time in 8 games. October was a month that is sure to be remembered for a long time amongst this Moneys squad and all associated with it. 7 league games, 6 wins, 1 draw and no losses whilst scoring 18 goals and conceding 6.
Wins against Binfield, Horndean, Bognor Regis Town, Raynes Park Vale, Kingstonian and Bedfont Sports, alongside a solitary draw against Fareham Town have propelled Moneys up the Isthmian League South Central Division. Moneys started the month in 16th place, but ended in an impressive 4th.
On last Saturdays loss, Callum Glen said, “We’ve played worse and won this season,” so no panic stations in the Management team. Hanworth were an incredibly physical and well drilled side. Glen made changes at half time after admitting he’d set a few things up slightly wrong, and Moneys were the better for it in the second half. In that second half Moneys started the far better, but it was Hanworth who scored first through Hanworth legend, Sam Merson.
Moving onto this first week long gap between Moneys have had since the first two games of October, it’s been a great opportunity to get the squad back to the JJ for some much needed treatment, training and focus on the rest of November. A few players returned to light training after injuries in James Franklyn and Simba Mlambo, but both seem unlikely to feature at Ascot Racecourse.
Ascot United:
Formed in their current guise in 1965 and playing at the Racecourse since 1990, Ascot were one of the first teams in the UK to be granted FA Charter Community club status in 2004. Currently there are over 1000 registered players, embracing all ages from age 5 upwards and all levels of ability. Every weekend over 90 teams play, representing the club.
The clubs finest moment without doubt, was winning the FA Vase in the 2022/23 season, under the Arch at Wembley Stadium. They were also promoted to Step 4 football in that same season, winning the Combined Counties League Premier Division North.
Last season, Ascot finished 4th in the league, making it into the promotion play-offs. They faced Hanworth Villa but were knocked out 2-1 by ‘the Villains’.
‘The Yellas’ have had a mixed season so far. They started off in okay form as they won 3 of their first 5 games, with the wins against Binfield, Southall and Horndean. However since then their form has dropped off massively as they are currently on a run of 5 straight losses and are goalless in their last 4 as well.
Their recent run of form has them lose at home to Westfield and Bedfont, as well as on the road to Bognor Regis Town, AFC Portchester and Leatherhead.

Previous Meetings:
Just the two meetings between the two sides and they were both last season. The first of those was at the Racecourse where Ascot came away 3-2 winners. Ascot had lead 1-0, but Moneys got themself into a 1-2 lead through a Scott Hills penalty and a Tom Cain goal. ‘The Yellas’ however came back with 2 goals in 4 minutes in the 74th and 77th from Connor Holland to take all 3 points.
The reverse fixture at the John Jenkins ended in a 1-1 draw. Ascot took the lead in the second half but James Franklyn equalised for Moneys in a game that is probably most remembered for Chad Goulter’s horror challenge on former Moneys forward Jafer Mohammad-Kier, which caused an enormous gash down the front of his leg and had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance, with fears of a compound fracture amongst other complications.
Ones to Watch:
Jaheim Kamara: The left footed winger is Ascot’s top scorer with 4 goals so far this season, 2 in the league and 2 in the league cup. Kamara was at Badshot Lea last season, making thirty eight appearances for the Baggies. He previously played youth football for Sutton United
Luis Le Paih: The main midfield playmaker for United, likes to drop deep to receive the ball. Currently the top active league goalscorer for Ascot, with 3 league goals and 1 league cup goal.
Baback Dehghani: Played 12 times for Ascot in the league so far this season, he is a quick and mobile winger. Dehghani isn’t a prolific goalscorer but does often get a few of the season, having played for a number of clubs at this level, so is due a goal.
