This Sunday, Moneyfields FC Women will make the 138-mile round trip to York Road to face Maidenhead United in the second round of the FA Women’s National League Plate, in a 14:00 kick-off.
Karl Watson’s side last played in the plate just shy of three weeks ago, when Moneys defeated Bristol City PGA 3-1 in round one at the John Jenkins Stadium.
Sunday’s tie is the final game of what has been triple game week for Moneys, where last Sunday we beat Keynsham Town 6-0, and on Thursday we put seven goals past Bournemouth Sports in a rearranged fixture at home.
Opposition Overview:
Originally, Maidenhead started as Burnham LFC, before transitioning to Maidenhead United Women at the start of the 2008/09 season.
In their first full season, the Berkshire-based side enjoyed immediate success when they won the Southern Regional Women’s football league by a solid ten-point margin and gained progression into the first round proper of the Women’s FA Cup.
The Magpies are managed by EFL journeyman Dave Kitson, who is most famously known for spells both at Reading and Portsmouth as a player, where he made a combined 203 appearances and scored 66 goals for both teams.
In the first round of the FA WNL Plate, United beat Bridgwater United 2-1 at York Road, with goals from Izzy Stockton and a 90+1’ minute winner from Megan Harper sending Kitson’s side into Round Two.
Watson and Kitson’s sides have already faced each other once this campaign, that was in league action, where Moneys earned a hard-fought three points and a clean sheet, with goals from Meg Fox, Daisy Beard, and Captain Ali Hall.
