Moneyfields booked their place in the last eight after a thrilling Second Round victory over Maidenhead United, where they came from behind twice to secure progression through a dramatic penalty shootout.
In a hard-fought 90 minutes, Sophie Phelps and Ali Hall each found the net to level the score on two occasions, taking the match to extra time. After two tense 15-minute halves failed to separate the sides, it was the Moneys’ composure from the spot that sealed the win.
Skye-Louise Granger, Daisy Beard, goalkeeper Hannah Haughton, and Ali Hall all converted from 12 yards before Meg Fox confidently struck home the decisive penalty to send Moneyfields through to the quarter-finals.
It was a rollercoaster of emotions for first team manager, Karl Watson and his side. Despite securing progression, the manager admitted it was a performance that left him both relieved and frustrated in equal measure.
“What’s my heart rate like? Right now, I hate football. I hate football,” He laughed — half in disbelief, half in exhaustion. “I ask myself, how can we be so good and then be so bad? Tears and laughter, love and hate — I’ve been through all of them today.”
The Quarter-Final clash promises to be another exciting encounter as Moneyfields continue their journey in the FA WNL Plate, aiming to reach the competition’s final stages for the first time.
Supporters are encouraged to get behind the team at the John Jenkins Stadium on Sunday, 11th January, with kick-off at 2:00 pm.
